Bills affecting Public transit user in New Jersey — 2026 session

Authorizes use of school bus monitoring systems; establishes certain enforcement procedures and penalties for certain violations captured by school bus monitoring systems.

Requires school bus personnel members to call 911 emergency line in potential life-threatening emergencies; requires certain school buses transportating students with disabilities to be equipped with certain safety features; makes appropriation.

Requires NJT rail stations and bus and rail terminals to display historical information about area in or around stations and terminals.

Requires school bus personnel members working with students with disabilities to call 911 emergency line in potential life-threatening emergencies; requires school buses transporting students with disabilities to be equipped with certain safety features.

Eliminates the corporate transit fee.

Requires NJT to establish pilot program to provide free rides on rail, light rail, and bus service to individuals eligible for Access Link service.

Establishes "NJpass Program" to provide discounted fares to eligible organizations; establishes "GO NJ Transit Card Program" to develop transit cards that can be used to purchase any NJT service.

Makes supplemental appropriation of up to $10 million to DOT for construction of highway guard rail along entirety of Route 208 through Franklin Lakes, Wyckoff, Hawthorne, Glen Rock, Fair Lawn, and Oakland in sections without highway guard rail, where necessary to ensure health and safety of motorists and residents whose properties abut Route 208.

Expands NJT Access Link paratransit service area to include certain veterans health care facilities; appropriates $1 million.

Authorizes schools to administer commercial driver license exam and other motor vehicle services for school bus drivers.
